RESOLUTE REBEL: General Roswell S. Ripley, Charleston's Gallant Defender

A man of considerable contradictions, Ripley had a distinguished career in the U.S. Army, during the Mexican war, followed by a controversial career as a Confederate general. After the war, he moved to London, where he unsuccessfully attempted to gain control of arms-manufacturing machinery made for the Confederacy. Photos & maps.
